minari: the korean american story

Writer's picture: Claire AnClaire An

numbing blues against violent greens / the next plant to flower / through your hands / they smell of korea

into the undergrowth of a creek / be dirt / be love / be minari / my heart is borne new / thump & thump / umma stands over / stethoscope in hand / one beat at a time / called america

cabbage & chili peppers / a bit for room / in this home with wheels / rains broken through roofs / will we plant ourselves / our feet fertilized by better soil / laced in promise

astrix in church / paul lughes his burdens / on that wooden cross of his / where do we place / broken water / go-stop / that fresh mountain dew / onto?

we were better in california / no? / we build as we / splinter our hands & grow / further apart / but fire is fertilizer / weave in hands / we continue
