Becoming is about Michelle's whole life. Michelle as a kid gets piano lessons from her aunt, goes to school, plays with dolls, and does what a normal kid does. She goes to Princeton and into a good law firm and works hard. She meets this man named Barack Obama and learns so much about a different life. Then, she decides to pursue what she wants to do, so she works in the city government, and then at a hospital. She faces the challenge of her father's death. Then she marries her boyfriend, has two kids, and struggles with balancing her personal life with her work life. Suddenly, her husband becomes a senator, and then with hard work, becomes the President of the United States. Michelle Obama was First Lady for eight years and became a role model for so many people. Even after she and her family left the White House, she continues to inspire people.
Before I read this book, I always thought that Michelle Obama was one of those legendary women who lead people to their dreams and spoke great words. She was amazing, and even when I looked at her photo, I swelled with pride. However, after I finished this book, I got a totally different view of the Former-First Lady. Michelle Obama is a person who succeeds and fails different obstacles. Michelle Obama used to be a kid who played and had a time where the only challenges were choosing her clothes or finding where her dolls were. Michelle is an actual person who is similar to me, just in a different position and with a different background life. I saw how her life wasn't easy, and how Micelle Obama had many lefts and rights in her path before she ended up where she is now. When I look at her now, it feels like I have a small connection with her and that we share a secret no one knows.
While reading the book, one of the most impactful moments was the time where Michelle Obama talks about her life in the White House. Michelle Obama says how the years she had spent as a first-lady were not her whole life. It was just a small but important part of her life. Reading this, I realized that Michelle Obama was once a kid, a student, and a person with a different past. I've always thought about Michelle Obama as a first lady, but I never about her life outside that. I think what Obama wanted to say was that these eight years in the White House shouldn't be represented as her whole life.
In the end, I think this book should be read by anyone who is able to understand Michelle Obama's story. It is amazing, about life from being a young girl who just lives in Chicago to becoming the wife of one of the most important men in history. It is definitely a must-read because it will touch your heart.
